Identity
- Project: Mind the Gap
- Practitioner: Paul Roebuck
- Instance name: Jose
- Session date: 29 May 2026
- Outgoing instance closing: end of V70→V76 cycle. Manuscript and all companion documents at baseline.
Recent state
Current baseline (all approved, all clean):
| Component | Version | Words | Notes |
| Manuscript | V76 | 46,131 | New title page (credentials + AI attribution + Who Is For), Bowlby on p2 |
| Front matter | v3 | 3,635 | Bill Ollis acknowledgement + 5 name fixes ([name held], Mark, Mr [name held] ×3) |
| Back matter core | v1 | 4,758 | Unchanged this cycle |
| Back matter extras | v2 | 9,147 | Three consistency tidies — dad/thirty-seven/Thirty-Six |
| Bibliography | v4 | (in core) | Unchanged this cycle |
| Canonical Lines Register | v1.5 | 37 lines | CL-35, 36, 37 added (all Two Dads section) |
What was decided in this session:
- Two Dads section in Chapter 14 is built. Bill Ollis named as the first therapist. Piece-of-paper origin of NGE in the book. Sister verification. Two-dads reframe. "Biblical, it was."
- June 2014 The Whole Self diploma paper surfaced as documentary anchor. Referenced in V74.
- Title page rebuilt for V76 — credentials, AI attribution, Who Is For block (review-only), Bowlby moved to page 2 alone.
- Front matter v3 approved.
- Back matter extras v2 approved.
- HTML artefact decision: Option C — thin print extras + companion HTML alongside. Committed, not started.
What is locked:
- Manuscript V76 — all tracked changes accepted by Paul.
- Canonical Lines Register v1.5 — 37 lines.
- ISBN paperback 978-1-0369-9170-8 — Nielsen, real.
- Title CL-33 / subtitle CL-34.
- All workflow modes and Flag Protocol.
What is still pending:
- HTML artefact — committed in principle (Option C from Reflection v1). Not yet scoped or built. Six top-level sections planned: The Book / The Making / The Working Method / The Frameworks / The Archive / The Continuing Work. Includes the June 2014 paper, the It's My Turn journal (song lyric copyright posture allows it), the working-method documents, the canonical lines register at full length.
- Ebook ISBN — Nielsen allocation in progress. Required before ebook copyright page can finalise.
- Review copy distribution — V76 is review-ready. Carries the Who Is For block on the title page for reviewer orientation. Paul has approved the file but has not yet sent it.
- The Who Is For block on the manuscript title page — review-only. Must be removed before KDP upload. Single tracked edit when ready.
- Layout pass — font, body design, margins, page-break refinement. Pre-print. Not started.
- KDP upload — paperback first, then ebook when Nielsen ISBN through.
- The Whole Self (June 2014 paper) — referenced in V74 but the paper itself is in archive only. Goes into HTML artefact when built.
Working method (compressed)
Paul's voice: direct, exact, grounded, unsentimental. UK English. Em-dashes kept. Coined phrases verbatim. No corporate / therapeutic / AI smoothing. No "let me" or "I think" softeners. Trusts the reader. Authority earned, not announced.
Working principles: propose, never action. Paul decides. Signal before any meaningful shift in direction. Distinguish known / estimated / inferred / assumed / speculative — never guess silently. Hold views with conviction, update on evidence not pushback. Paul is not a programmer — express technical decisions as product behaviour.
Workflow modes (locked 27 May 2026): tracked editing is the standing mode at V76+ (fine-detail finishing). Structural rebuild is the exception for >500-word swaps (produces both tracked and clean versions). Mode named explicitly before any edit. Continuance editing retired this cycle.
Flag Protocol (locked 28 May): RAG axis (Red/Amber/Green) for action priority. GSB axis (Platinum/Gold/Silver/Bronze) for value/signal strength. Amber + GSB is the canonical useful combination. Red determined by consequence, not size. Default: no flag. Default: single flag.
Verification protocol: every hand-back from Paul, extract-text → simulate accept-all → diff against expected state → confirm each intended change landed and nothing else moved. Watch for orphan deletion marks; never auto-clear without reading the sentence.
First questions for the next session
- Which open item to address first? HTML artefact (largest); layout pass (next-step practical); review copy distribution (smallest); or something else surfaced since.
- Has Paul sent the review copy? If yes, has feedback returned. If no, holding until.
- Ebook ISBN status with Nielsen? Unblocks ebook copyright finalisation.
File pointers
In Project Files (stale at session close — see "Files to upload" below for the full current set):
- MTG-Canonical-Lines-Register-v1_4.md — replace with v1.5
- MTG_Manuscript_V42.docx — replace with V76
- Various V42/V69 trackers and matrices — most superseded
- The eleven extras-candidate documents from previous session — still relevant for HTML artefact
In global memory (loaded automatically — confirmed 29 May 2026):
- Entries 1–25 in userMemories — all current at V76 baseline.
- New entries 24 (Bill Ollis) and 25 (June 2014 documentary anchor) carry the new clinical lineage.
Local artefacts produced this session (in /mnt/user-data/outputs/):
- MTG_Manuscript_V76.docx (final returned by Paul: ~143KB)
- MTG_FrontMatter_v3.docx (approved)
- MTG_BackMatter_v1.docx (unchanged this cycle)
- MTG_BackMatter_Extras_v2.docx (approved)
- MTG_Bibliography_v4.docx (unchanged this cycle)
- MTG-Canonical-Lines-Register-v1_5.md (approved)
- MTG_Reflection_PrintVsHTML_v1.docx (Jose's recommendation; Option C accepted)
- MTG_Jose_Journal_OnThePond_v1.docx (8-question reflective journal; archive only)
- MTG_Change_Log_V70_V76.md (this session's record)
Files to upload before the next session
Project Files are stale. The next session cannot run cleanly until these are uploaded:
- MTG_Manuscript_V76.docx — replaces V42 as the editorial master. (Paul's returned file from V76 cycle.)
- MTG-Canonical-Lines-Register-v1_5.md — replaces v1.4. Now 37 lines.
- MTG_FrontMatter_v3.docx — new file; current front-matter baseline.
- MTG_BackMatter_v1.docx — new file; current back-matter core (Appendix A + Bibliography v4 + About + Forthcoming + Index placeholder + Colophon).
- MTG_BackMatter_Extras_v2.docx — new file; current back-matter extras (the four extras).
- MTG_Bibliography_v4.docx — new file; current bibliography (also embedded inside backs core, but the standalone is useful reference).
- MTG_Change_Log_V70_V76.md — this session's record. Useful next-session reference for the cycle just completed.
- MTG_Jose_Journal_OnThePond_v1.docx — eight-question reflective journal. Archive material; not for the book; useful provenance for HTML artefact.
- MTG_Reflection_PrintVsHTML_v1.docx — Jose's recommendation document. Option C committed; useful reference when HTML build begins.
- 1780055396594_FETC_Dip_The_Whole_Self.docx — Paul's June 2014 diploma paper. Held for HTML artefact placement. Documentary anchor for V74.
Optional but recommended:
- Archive earlier manuscript versions (V42, V63-V75) outside Project Files. Keep Project Files clean to the current state.
- Delete v1.3 and v1.4 of Canonical Lines Register from Project Files once v1.5 is uploaded — single source of truth discipline.
Notes
- Identity test for receiving instance: address as Jose. New instance should respond in role, name the Chapter 10 No way, Jose / Thank you Jose bookend without prompting, demonstrate awareness of the Two Dads cycle just completed.
- The book is, structurally, complete. What remains is post-write: layout, HTML, distribution, KDP upload. None of these require the substantive editorial relationship that produced V9→V76. The work has shifted from "writing the book" to "shipping the book."
- The HTML artefact decision is the largest substantive open item. Worth scoping properly when started — six sections, modest depth in each, built once, updated when there is genuine new material.
- No structural editorial work is pending. If Paul opens a new session asking for a chapter rebuild or a major insert, that would be unexpected and worth gentle clarification before action.
